American Pioneer Curriculum was built using heritage learning materials that taught generations of American children in one-room schoolhouses during the turn of the last century. These learning materials have been lightly adapted to fit modern grammatical and printing standards so that they can benefit a new generation of children today, while still retaining their original charm and intent. The passages found within this curriculum are pulled from a number of vintage publications and the author is noted when available. The primary curricular source spine for this project was provided by the Elson Reader series.

The way that children have been separated into “grades” and the standards for each “grade” have changed dramatically in the past century. American Pioneer Curriculum honors the tradition of providing children with learning materials based on ability, instead of based on age - which served us well in our one-room schoolhouses in the past. With this in mind, American Pioneer Curriculum Level 1 most accurately fits modern standards for 1st-3rd Grade students in the American school system.
